Reporting to the Production Manager Operations, the Process Equipment Technician performs machining and fitting operations for the purpose of testing designs and for the manufacture of prototypes and maintenance duties as required.
This position is deemed a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). A Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) is defined by the Nuclear Safety and Control Act as a person who is required, in the course of the person’s business, or occupation in connection with a nuclear substance or nuclear facility to perform duties in such circumstances that there is a reasonable probability that the person may receive a dose of radiation that is greater than the prescribed limit for the general public (1 mSv per year for the whole body).
Key Responsibilities
Fabricates equipment components, prototypes and devices with minimum supervision.
Sets up equipment for testing in accordance with prescribed specifications, documents experimental work and reports findings
Operates and maintains in good working condition the equipment and machine tools of the shop.
Produces or contributes to working sketches or designs for components, devices or test fixtures as required
Performs other related production process equipment and shipping package maintenance duties as appropriate
Performs inspection tasks (e.g. QC mechanical and safety inspections on lifting devices)
Assists with the development and testing of mechanical equipment used in facilities for new processes and for development work.
Prepares written documentation such as procedures and preventive maintenance records
Provides technical support to the engineering and design group (mainly activities relating to original prototype design and troubleshooting)
Performs other related production process equipment and shipping package maintenance duties as appropriate
Qualifications
Grade 12 technical secondary school
Qualification and/or certification as a machinist plus 5 years related experience after completion of recognized training program. Familiarity with the welder, pipefitter or industrial mechanic trades desirable.
Certification as a mechanical inspector
Computer literacy desired
Skills and Competencies
Must demonstrate a high level of skill and efficiency as a machinist with the ability to operate a variety of machine tools; must have a good knowledge of other metal working skills. Must have the ability to understand and apply technical instructions and to work from engineering documents and specifications. Ability to originate or assist with the design of prototype devices or the improvement of existing equipment. Can work independently with a minimum of supervision and can work cooperatively within a team situation. Must be familiar with the use of welding and brazing equipment and have knowledge of shop mathematics. Must be able to document fabrication modifications or development records.

Wear a respirator for potentially several hours at a time
Lift 10kgs on a frequent basis
Push/pull items with a force of up to 25kgs on an occasional basis
Operate a forklift
Training Required: Must complete all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker
